About Us

Baldwin Cox was set up by Mike Cox over 20 years ago and has been present in Beeston ever since. Dedicated to providing a personal service, the team uses its varied skills, knowledge and experience to meet the needs of its numerous clients.

Advice is given to the individual, partnership, organisation and limited company, whether it be a simple personal tax return, business advice to a growing partnership or seeking the sale of a multi-million pound turnover company, no business is too small or too large.

While the majority of our clients are local to our office, we have clients as far away as London, Australia and Hong Kong demonstrating that advice given can be on an international as well as national scale.

News
New tax rates from 6/4/2011
The basic personal allowance increases to £4745. The basic rate band is to be reduced so higher rate taxpayers will not benefit from the increase.

Tax Credits from 6/4/2011.
The baby element is to be abolished. If household income is above £40,000 tax credits will be withdrawn at 41% of the excess. The income increase 'disregard' will be reduced from £25,000 to £10,000. Persons over 60 can qualify for working tax credits if they work more than 16 hours per week depending on income.

Business Taxes
From 06/04 2011 the Corporation Tax main rate decreases to 27% and the small companies rate to 20%. From April 2012 the annual investment allowance reduces to £25,000 and the rate at which plant & machinery is written off reduces to 18%.

VAT
The standard rate rises to 20% from 04/01/2011. The threshold for registration is currently turnover of £70,000 in any 'rolling' 12 month period. You must register within 30 days of the end of the month in which the threshold is exceeded. Deregistration limit is £68,000 annual turnover. Deregistration may make you more competitive if your customers are not VAT registered. The flat rate scheme may save you money and fees. Cash accounting is usually beneficial.

Inheritance Tax
The threshhold remains at £325,000. If executors sell property within 4 years of a death for less than Probate value a repayment of IHT can be claimed provided IHT has already been paid on the estate.

Capital Gains Tax.
The annual exemption remains at £10,100. From 22/06/2010 the rate of tax will depend on income and will be either 18% or 28%. Gains on business assets will continue to be taxed at 10% subject to a lifetime limit of £5 million.

Limited car parking is available at our office. However there is a free 3-hour car park across the road from us and a free long stay car park within a 2 minutes walk of Middle Street.

From J25 of the M1:
Leave the motorway heading towards Nottingham on the A52. After approximately 3 miles look for the first public house (the ‘Nurseryman’) on the right hand side and turn immediately right there onto Wollaton Road. Carry on down this road towards Beeston town centre looking for the fire station on the right hand side and at the first set of traffic lights after the fire station, turn right into Middle Street. Take the third right into Chilwell Road / Foster Avenue.


From Nottingham city centre:
Leave the centre along the A52 towards Derby. Carry on the A52 past the ‘Queens Medical Centre’, the University campus on the left and go straight on at the ‘Priory public house’ roundabout. Look for the ‘Nurseryman’ public house on you left where you should turn left onto Wollaton Road. Follow the remaining directions as if you were travelling from the M1 motorway.
